Shri Surendra Nath Mahato, an eminent educationist, provided the foundation and inspiration for the emergence of the "Kotshila Social Welfare Society" as trusted symbols of quality and excellence in the field of education. He started a school, "Gurukul Ashramik Vidyalay" in Jiudaru village of Kotsila area, Purulia in 2004 with the objective of providing education & knowledge to the childrens. He tried to erect an institution, where scientific and career-building knowledge could be provided along with inculcation of values and an appreciation of Indian culture, arts and heritage.
The year 2015 saw the realisation of Shri Surendra Nath Mahato's lifetime dream of setting up the Gurukul Teachers' Training Institute and equipping the institution with experienced & accomplished teachers.
He exhibited the same meticulous planning, concern for detail and flawless execution in the field of education, that were his hallmark throughout his life. He nurtured his school & college to success by creating a family-like environment through his personal touch, and shared a vision of excellence and ownership with all the stake-holders in the institutions.
His vision of value-based holistic education, focusing on acquiring various skills and learning latest technologies was truly remarkable & exceptional. During his illustrious career, Surendra Babu had been actively associated with several social, cultural and professional bodies, and held responsible positions reflecting his versatility, leadership in social circles.
His philanthropy and generosity knew no bounds, and throughout his life, he helped the poor and needy with financial help and educational/vocational opportunities, thus enabling them to join the mainstream. Very down-to-earth & a true Karmayogi, Surendra babu retained his zeal for hard work throughout his life and remained keenly involved in the management.
He always tried to promote education in the rural areas of Purulia. His life's work and achievements & the lasting legacy of excellence that he leaves behind, will continue to inspire and guide us in all our endeavours, as we strive to achieve the goals to which he devoted his life. His glowing spirit will live in forever & will inspire us for ever.
